救主耶穌仁者之樂， Jesus, Thou Joy of loving hearts,
生命之源萬人之光！ Thou Fount of life, Thou Light of men,
我今撇下世間享受， From the best bliss that earth imparts,
虛心回轉向你仰望。 We turn unfilled to Thee again.
救主真理永存不變， Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood;
呼求主者必蒙拯救； Thou savest those that on Thee call;
尋主之人見主美善， To them that seek Thee Thou art good,
尋見主者主是萬有。 To them that find Thee all in all.
我眾得嚐生命之糧， We taste Thee, O Thou living Bread,
越嚐美味越加嚮往； And long to feast upon Thee still;
我眾得飲生命活泉， We drink of Thee, the Fountainhead,
越飲主漿越加渴望。 And thirst our souls from Thee to fill.
浮生境遇虛幻易變， Our restless spirits yearn for Thee,

在黑暗的中古世紀，這首古拉丁聖詩彷彿一縷馨香之氣飄向天庭。雖然不能準確地考証它的作者，但歷來總是指向12世紀法國克雷弗修道院，那位最受崇敬的修士──聖伯納（Saint Bernard of Clairvaux）。這位能左右當代君王、主教，又擁有過人講道口才的修道士，也是馬丁路德最崇敬的人。
直到1858年才由美國的潘默牧師（Ray Palmer, 1808-1887）由48節選譯成英文五節。樂律是Long Meter之後，由貝克（Henry Baker, 1835-1910）譜曲。調名：魁北克（Quebec）。
詩中親密的敬拜，讓人想起大衛和所有愛主、以神為樂的人，真正体驗了主耶穌是那生命的泉源，解人乾渴；是生命的糧，使人滿足；是世人的光，驅除罪惡黑夜，普照世界。難怪那躁動不安的心靈頻頻渴望來仰望主的慈容。
深入非洲叢林大陸的英國宣教士李文斯頓（David Livingston）說：“當我跨越蠻荒大地時，這首聖詩時常迴蕩在我耳中”。
